Results of IABC'S first employee survey now available Earlier this year, IABC invited members to participate in a longitudinal employment study to assess the job market for communicators. Highlights of the survey include:

  • 11 percent of respondents lost their job in the last 12 months.
  • 29 percent of respondents were looking for a job at the time of the survey.
  • 24 percent of respondents had found and started a new job in the last 12 months. Of these, four percent started the new job less than one month ago, 16 percent started it 1-3 months ago, 19 percent started it 3-6 months ago, and 61 percent started it more than six months ago.

The survey will be repeated in June, September and December to keep on the pulse of any changes in the employment situation. The second survey will be sent out through the June issue of What's New at IABC. Be sure to look for it and send in your responses. (No individual information will be shared.)

Call for Presentation for 2010 Conferences IABC invites presentation proposals by July 31, 2009. IABC selects speakers based on audience and content needs to reflect membership demographics. Speakers must meet the association's criteria for educating communication practitioners to excel professionally and improve organizational performance.

IABC's 2010 events include:

  • 2010 World Conference, 6-9 June, Toronto
  • 2010 Media Relations Conference, North America location, October or November
  • 2010 Business Writing Conferences, various North American locations & dates
  • 2010 Employee Communication Conferences, Chicago, Illinois, May and November
  • 2010 Research & Measurement Conference, North American location, October or November
  • 2010 Regional Conferences, Canada, United States, Europe, Africa and/or Asia/Pacific

IABC Master Communicator 2009 - Call for nominations. The Master Communicator award is the highest honour given to members of IABC in Canada. It recognizes career achievement, excellence in professional work, outstanding service to and leadership in IABC, contribution to the communication profession in business and community, and thought leadership.
